What is the cause of red patches on the skin?
Q: My grandfather is 70 years old. He is diabetic. He has a skin infection on his palms and legs. His skin becomes dry, reddish & hard and appears like a wound. Please suggest a medicine or any medicated cream for him.
A:There are a number of possibilities. Dryness could be ichthyotic in nature or post inflammatory. The red patches could be due to xerosis, fungal infection, eczema, drug reaction etc. The problem could be due to one entity or due to a combination of them. Treatment would depend on the diagnosis.
