What is the cause for pus and pain in my stitches?
Q: I had a bypass surgery seven years back. There is pus formation in the stitches and are very painful. The wire also sticks out. What should I do?
A:Infection can take place after any surgery, even in the best of centres. It is extremely difficult to give the line of management until and unless one gets to see and investigate the patient first hand, but in general if pus formation has lasted for last seven years, then one may need to take recourse to detailed investigations in the form of CT scan and thereafter removal of wires and curettage of the bone and the discharging sinuses followed by re suturing of the wound. I suggest you contact a cardiac surgeon for the same.
