What is the cause for milky discharge from breasts?

Q: I am 28 years old and was married 2 years ago. Recently I had a problem of something like milk (light yellowish colour liquid) coming from my breasts. I had pain earlier but after a week it subsided. If I squeeze my breasts then the fluid comes out. I visited a doctor who said that I had some thyroid problem. I had a count of 5 against minimum of 3. Is that going to effect my marital life and can I conceive soon? How exactly can it be cured?

A:You should not squeeze the breasts and see if the milky discharge comes out even without squeezing. If it does, then you have a condition known as galactorrhoea. This is because of increased level of prolactin in the blood. This can interfere with conception. It is advisable to get blood test - serum prolactin. If it is raised, it can be treated with medicines.
