What is the best position to sleep in during pregnancy?
Q: I am 28 yr old woman with 3 and half yr old daughter. I am planning a second child but want to find out what is the best position for me to lie down at night during pregnancy? Is it safe to lie on my back? Can I pick up my daughter (who weighs 12 kg) at night to take her to the toilet? Please advice soon. Thank you.
A:Any position of comfort is ok to sleep in; in later part of pregnancy lying in left lateral position is best for the baby. I would advise you to refrain from lifting your 3 yr. old as when you bend and then straighten to lift her up, you increase your abdominal pressure which could start uterine contractions.
