What is mild pelvic dilation in the fetus?

Q: I am 9 months pregnant, and recently underwent scanning and found that the baby’s kidney shows mild pelvic dilation. What does this mean? They told me that this may disappear or we may have to check this after the baby is born. What should we do?

A:Mild pelvicalcyceal dilatation usually is not of much significance. Most of them settle down with time. We need to do a Ultrasound of kidneys after 72 hours of birth and then depending on the findings need to proceed further. Relax for the time being.
