What is cervical erosion?
Q: I am a 30 years old woman have done a regular check up and the doctor detected cervical erosion. How serious is this? Is it curable? What is its treatment?
A:Erosion is actually a misnomer, as it is not an ulcer. It is the lining of the cervical canal (neck of womb is cervix), which pops out and is seen on that part of cervix, which is in vagina. This can be one cause of white discharge. It can be treated easily with cryotherapy (ice therapy), using a cryogun that uses nitrous oxide as a coolant. However, it is important that you get a Pap smear and colposcopy (viewing the cervix with a colposcope that gives a magnified image of the cervix) before undergoing any treatment for the "erosion".
