What are Ostriol, Zyloric and Statix used for?

Q: I am a 30 year old male, being treated for IgA nephropathy disease. I am taking Mycofit/Mycept tablets as immunosuppressants. Along with these tablets, I am also using Ostriol. I would like to know the purpose of Ostriol, Zyloric and Statix.

A:Ostriol is the brand name; the name of the medicine it contains is called calcitriol. It is used in patients with low calcium levels in the blood in patients of kidney disorders. Zyloric (allopurinol) is used to prevent uric acid levels going up, while Statix (atorvastatin) is meant to lower cholesterol levels.
