Secondary implantation of artificial lenses in both eyes
Q: When I was 3 years old, I suffered from a primary complex for which I was given 45 steroid injections on alternate days which lead to a cataract. I underwent surgery on both eyes at 4 years and now I wear soft contact lenses or thick glasses. Should I go in for implantation of artificial lenses in both eyes? I am at present 23 years old.
A:You need to get yourself checked up to see whether your cornea is healthy (specular count), status of your angle (any glaucoma), status of posterior capsule and status of vitreous. All these factors are taken in to account while planning secondary intra-ocular lens (IOL) implantation.
