Is Vitamin E a good antioxidant?

Q: What is the current thing on vitamin E. What is the appropriate dose at which it confers the antioxidant effects?

A:Unfortunately, the experimental studies (in animals) which showed that anti-oxidants may have tremendous benefits in maintaining health, have not been borne out in clinical studies. Vitamin E is yet the most recent example. It is currently recommended that Vitamin E in a multivitamin tablet is all that one needs. One might argue that if one consumes a truly balanced diet then there is no need for supplementation of any kind.
