Is the prolonged use of Emset safe during pregnancy?
Q: My 29 years old wife weighs 36 kg. She is into her fourth month of pregnancy. The doctor prescribed her Emset (thrice a day) in her first trimester to control nausea and vomiting. Gradually, the dosage was decreased and now she is asked to take only one tablet of Emset in the morning. My family doctor has told us that the prolonged intake of Emset is not good. Is it true? The gynaecologist told her to continue Emset (just 1 tablet a day). Because of her vomiting, she is unable to eat food properly and is becoming weak. Can she continue with Emset? She also gets lot of hiccups and burps. The doctor has asked her to take Sucrafil O Gel.
A:Emset can be continued. You can also add a combination of Vitamin B 1, 2, 6 and 12 tablets to reduce vomiting and improve appetite. She can choose low fat and low spiced foods of her choice - chocolates and sweets are good to reduce vomiting. This will end by the 4th or 5th month.
