Is the drug Xenical effective in treating obesity?
Q: I heard about a medicine Xenical (www.Xenical.com) for obesity which has been approved by the American FDA. I want to know if it is safe to take it and if it is available in India or if there is an Indian version of this medicine?
A:Xenical is the brand name of a medicine called orlistat. It is not being marketed in India. It is to be used only in obese patients with a BMI of 30kg/meter square or more under close supervision. Like all other drugs it has side effects.
