Is swelling of feet during pregnancy normal?
Q: My wife is seven months pregnant and she is having swelling on her feet and some times on the hands. The doctor asked us to get a urine test which showed infection for which she prescribed medicines. After taking the medicines, the swelling on her hands went but not from the feet. Please advise if this is normal? What should she do and can she go for regular walks? I would like to tell you that she had a miscarriage 2 months before she got pregnant.
A:It is not unusual to have swelling in the feet during advanced pregnancy. If her blood pressure is normal and she has no albumin in her urine then there is no treatment required. Your wife can go for walks. While sitting she must preferably keep her feet on a chair or stool in front and avoid long periods of standing.
