Is meningitis C vaccine safe during pregnancy?
Q: Not being aware that I was pregnant, I took meningitis C vaccine during the first week of my pregnancy. Kindly let me know the implications.
A:There are no implications. Use of Meningitis C vaccine is not contraindicated during pregnancy. The reason it is avoided, if at all possible, is due to lack of clinical trials in pregnant and breast-feeding women. These trials are not permitted due to ethical reasons. No drugs can be tried in pregnant and/or breast-feeding women unless the drug is specifically meant for use during pregnancy and/or lactation. Please do not bother.
