Is it advisable to have a caesarean in a woman over 35?
Q: My sister, who is 35 years, is pregnant. She had an ectopic pregnancy 3 years back. This is her first child and she will complete nine months next week. The doctor has advised her to have a caesarian. Can you advise if it is necessary to do surgery or allow normal delivery?
A:It would be advisable to undergo surgery for various reasons - She is elderly primigravida and hence her tissues are not as flexible as mothers of younger age group; she has had previous ectopic and hence this becomes a precious pregnancy. In case you still insist I am sure your doctor can explain his choice for surgery and why he cannot allow her a normal delivery.
