Is condensed milk advisable for a borderline diabetic during pregnancy?

Q: I am a 25 years old and 14 weeks pregnant woman. My glucose level was found to be a bit high but I am not a diabetic, so the doctor asked me to control it with diet. I have also lost some weight during pregnancy; my weight was 79 kg before pregnancy and now it has come down to 74.9 kg. I consulted the doctor and she asked me to take a protein rich diet. Will my losing weight affect my baby? I had 2 miscarriages earlier and this is my third pregnancy. Can you suggest some protein rich foods? I like tea very much; can I drink a cup of tea with 2 tablespoons of condensed milk?

A:If the baby is growing well then reduction of weight will have no negative effect on your pregnancy. However, taking condensed milk is not advisable in borderline diabetic during pregnancy because it has a very high sugar content. It is best to take light tea with normal milk. For high protein diet, please consume soymilk, mushrooms, fish and chicken.
