Is cervical stitch mandatory after an ICSI procedure?
Q: I am currently 13 weeks pregnant after an ICSI procedure. It was done due to low sperm motility of my husband. Now, my doctor has advised cervical scan at 17 weeks to check if I need a cervical stitch. Will the ICSI procedure (ovulation induction, egg retrieval and embryo transfer) I underwent put pressure on the cervix? Is cervical stitch mandatory after the ICSI procedure?
A:No, you don't need a cervical stitch just because you underwent the Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure. If the cervix or internal os is dilated or there are some symptoms like pain, frequency of urination, bleeding or heaviness of lower tummy, then stitch may be required if ultrasound shows cervical dilatation.
