Is an ovarian cyst in early pregnancy harmful?
Q: I am 3 months pregnant and in good health. During a songraphy done during the 1st month, it was found that I had a cyst 7.1 cm in my left ovary. It still exists as of now. The doctor recommends that we don't need to worry about it since it is beneficial for the growth of the child. Is it true?. I have been advised to take Pregnyl 500 injections 10 nos for my pregnancy. Is it necessary to do so?
A:Having an ovarian cyst of this size is frequently seen in early pregnancy. The cyst will resolve later. It should not worry you unless you develop some pain. You should continue with the injections. Most important, have serial ultrasound to check the size of the cyst and the growth of the baby. In case of severe pain, report immediately, because the pain can be because of complication in the cyst.
