Is a blood clot in the uterus during pregnancy a cause of worry?
Q: I am a 34 years old female into my seventh week of pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy my first child is 8 years old. I was experiencing slight pain for the last 15 days. The ultrasound report shows some blood clot in the uterus. My gynaecologist has told me that everything is fine but still I am worried. What should I do?
A:You have a condition called 'Threatened abortion'. The small clot present will get absorbed. The blood clot will not harm you or the baby. If the fetal heart activity is also present it is likely that pregnancy will continue. But you must understand that spontaneous abortions are very common and roughly 20% of all pregnancies abort - this is nature's way of getting rid of an abnormal pregnancy. This does not mean that your pregnancy will abort but even if this happens you must not blame yourself and accept and understand nature's ways.
