How to manage the sudden drop on blood sugar levels?
Q: I start sweating suddenly in the afternoon just before lunch time? As soon as I eat something, it becomes OK. I understand this is due to drop in blood sugar level? What happens in the body when the blood sugar levels drop in a diabetic patient? What precautions should I take other than keeping candies?
A:You make no mention of your overall control - is your fasting blood glucose Ok? What is the HbA1c? The overall treatment modification will depend on those factors. Yes, you are getting low blood sugar reactions, which will have to be managed by taking some glucose/sugar/ sweets immediately. The best way is however, to take a mid morning snack like an apple, which will pre-empt any such episodes. I do however suggest that you review with your endocrinologist/physician urgently.
