How should I choose a suitable health policy for my family?

Q: I am 34 years old man and want to take a Mediclaim policy for my family and myself, which includes my wife and two children (boy - age 6 years & girl - age 4 years). Please help me to choose the most suitable Mediclaim policy.

A:I appreciate your decision to opt for Individual Health Plan. It is always better to start health Insurance coverage as early as possible. This given you advantage of no claim benefit and lots of other exclusion coverage because of your age. I would suggest you United India Insurance policy (Platinum plan - for person less than 35 yrs) or SyndArogya (A bank assurance policy sold by Syndicate bank - for opting this you must have an active account with bank). There are also many other plans available in the market with their own specification and advantage. You can approach any public sector or private sector general insurance company for Health insurance. Please be careful on the exclusion and their specific duration. Considering the cost of treatment in general, I would suggest Sum Insured of minimum 2 lakh; you can increase your sum insured in future.
