Are diabetics eligible for Life insurance policies?

Q: I am a 47 years old male, a diabetic for the last 12 years. My diet as well as sugar level are well under control. I would like to go for Health as well as Life Insurance. Are diabetics eligible for Life insurance policies?

A:In principle, there cannot be a rule that diabetics cannot be issued an insurance policy. Any disease, including diabetes, has increased risk of disease and death. Hence the insurer, whether issuing a life insurance or health insurance policy, may like to decide in view of facts in each case as to whether to issue a policy as per their rules, and, if a policy is issued, subject to what terms and conditions, including increased premium. There are many insurance companies at present. I am sure there would be some companies willing to issue you both types of policies. You will have to contact your insurance agent. You may also browse through web sites of companies.
