How can type 2 diabetes be treated completely?
Q: I am a 50 years old man diagnosed with type 2 diabetes three months back. I was put on a strict diet and regime to lose weight and given medication. After 15 days, my sugar level became normal. My medication was reduced and now I am only on half a tablet Gemer 2 daily. I have lost about 14 kg weight and exercise regularly. My aim is to stop medication and control diabetes through diet. Is that possible? Is my pancreas secreting enough insulin?
A:Scientifically, your pancreas is forced to produce more insulin and when it gets exhausted by more than 50% one develops diabetes. Maintain normal body weight, blood pressure, do regular exercises and stress reduction. You may be able to maintain normal blood sugar for a few years. I would advise you to monitor blood sugar regularly. If it starts rising, which is likely over a few years, you may have to start drug therapy.
