How can iritis be treated?
Q: I am a 45 years old male suffering from iritis in my right eye for the last four years. Is there any preventive medication?
A:There is no preventive treatment for iritis as such. The only cure for Iritis is to find out the reason for it and cure that condition if possible. Problem with this is in 70% of cases you can never find the condition which is causing it in the first place. If it is low grade chronic iritis you need to have investigations to rule out chronic inflammatory conditions like tuberculosis(some times very difficult to diagnose.), sarcoidosis, syphilis etc. If it is usually acute and keeps recurring, it could be ankylosing spondylitis, a bone & joint problem which again is very difficult to cure. But more than iritis you have to be very quick about getting urgent treatment to avoid many complications which can be caused by onset of iritis & delayed appropriate treatment, including loss of vision due to this affecting retinal problems, glaucoma, cataract etc.
