How can I regularise my menses?

Q: I am a 29 years old woman weighing 72 kg. I am experiencing irregular periods for the last few months. My doctor told me that it is due to polycystic ovary disease (PCOD). I was taking Crina 20 for the three months, after which she told me to discontinue the tablets. There is a discharge of blood clots. Is it normal? How can I regularise my menses? We are planning for a baby after three months.

A:You first need to loose weight, and have regular menses- with weight reduction and metformin 500mgs twice a day. thyroid also needs to be evaluated as also test for diabetes. Following weight loss- then try natural conception for two cycles if periods are regular, by having coitus in the middle two weeks after the menses. After that only try for pregnancy with clomid cycles along with follicular monitoring and timesd coitus if periods are regular, and and semen is normal- if not than, may have to go for sperm prep and IUI.
