Q: Is there any medicine or remedy for retinitis pigmentosa?
A:There is unfortunately no cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa. However, Vitamin-A taken orally 15,000 i.u. daily has been reported to slow down progression. As there is no preparation available commercially with this concentration, Cap. Aquasol- A (50,000 i.u.) may be taken twice a week with meals.
Low Vision Devices/Field expanders, in case of significant visual deficit may have to be tried after consulting the specialist. In view of the hereditary patterns of this disease, brothers/sisters/children should be examined by the specialist & electrophysiological tests (ERG) conducted if necessary.
