Does fish help in managing diabetes?

Q: I am a 37 years old male suffering from type 2 diabetes. I take Metformin tablet and exercise regularly. I am not on insulin injections. I was asked to eat fish but I don’t like eating fish. Now, I have been asked to take Omega 3 vitamin tablets. Will it help controlling my blood sugar?

A:Fish oil will not have any beneficial effects on your blood glucose control. It is mainly given to treat the high cholesterol, specially high triglycerides, which is often associated with diabetes. In addition to fish oil, medication like fenofibrate is also used for treating high triglycerides.
