Does delivering in 36th week pose any risk to mother and baby?

Q: My 25 years old wife is into her eight month of pregnancy. Last week we went for a regular check up and the doctor told us that my wife may deliver in her 36th week. Is it fine?

A:Delivering at 36 completed weeks should not cause any problem. However, I wonder why she said that? In case she is planning on induced delivery at 36 weeks, I guess there is a valid reason- like high blood pressure, less growth (IUGR) of baby etc. Or, there may be signs (usually noted on vaginal examnation) that can help predict your wife will deliver earlier than is normal (37-40 weeks). Please discuss with your doctor.
