Does a mother's high thyroid levels affect fetus' mental health?
Q: I am a 32 years old female into my 27th week of pregnancy. In the second trimester, I was diagnosed hypothyroidism (ITS-8.09 ug/dl). My doctor prescribed me Elthroxin (25mg). My TSH level was controlled and within normal range(4.4 ug/dl). In the third trimester, once again the TSH test was performed and the value was found to be 6.05 ug/dl. Would this affect the mental health of the baby?
A:Your TSH values are very close to normal and generally with these values the T3 and T4 remains within normal limits. Since T3 T4 are responsible for thyroid functions, one does not expect to have any developmental problems in the baby with such problems.
