Does a high prolactin level interfere with conception?
Q: I am a 26 year old woman trying to conceive. The prolactin hormone in my blood is 26.8. I want to know how can this level come in the way of conception. Will I not be able to conceive, if prolactin level is not reduced?
A:High prolactin levels can interfere with ovulation and hence can cause irregular periods. This may interfere with conception; but your levels are not very high, can be corrected easily by medications 1.25 mg of bromocryptine tablets once daily at bedtime. This tablet can rarely lead to nausea, vomiting, dimness in vision, so be careful. Repeat prolactin levels after 3 months; if normal, chances of conception are very good.
