Does a filling help prevent tooth decay?

Q: I was having two very small holes in my teeth. After the doctor's advice, I got it filled today. I want to know whether the filling done will stop damage to the teeth. Please inform me how to protect them. Secondly my teeth are having yellowish colour for the last so many years. Please let me know about the treatment.

A:Once a filling is done further decay in that tooth stops. For protecting your teeth you have to follow general principles of home care: - twice a day brushing - once a day flossing - avoiding sweet and sticky foodstuffs - periodic dental check-ups For yellow teeth there are several treatment options available. Consult your dentist to know the best option in your case.
