Do I need to undergo a PCR test before going for IVF?

Q: I am 36 years old. My first IVF cycle has failed. The doctor has advised me to go for a PCR test before going for the second cycle. Is it necessary? What can be the reasons for failure of the first IVF cycle?

A:I don't think PCR for tuberculosis is required for IVF failure. One must go through all the factors that affect IVF results such as number and quality of oocytes and sperms, number of good embryos, endometrium, embryo transfer technique, and if problems are seen at any stage, these should be rectified to have a positive result in IVF in the subsequent cycle.
