Delayed menstruation

Q: I have been having irregular periods since I have started menstrurating. The menses itself started as late as 18 years for me. I am now 24 years of age and have been married for the last one year and a couple of months. The problem of the irregular periods still continue. I have visited gynae doctors and a couple of them have suggested laparoscopy. I have also taken medication to regularise the periods. The periods have been regular as long as I have taken the medication. As of now, I am not under medication and the last cycle started about 2 months and 12 days ago. I have tested negative for pregnancy. Please advise. Also please tell me what the probable reason could be for the delayed onset of menstruration. Different gynaecologists have given different versions.

A:The irregular periods since the beginning of your menstruation are most probably because of hormonal imbalance or Polycystic ovarian disease. You should get hormonal assays and then Transvaginal Ultra Sound to see the ovaries. With these reports, consult your gynaecologist.
