Can tests detect physical defects in an unborn fetus?
Q: I am 27 years old. Is it possible to detect any abnormality, mental disability or any vital defect of an unborn child during pregnancy? If yes, then what are the tests?
A:There are ultrasound tests for detecting physical defects and certain maternal and fetal blood tests for other defects. However, these tests should be conducted only after consultation with an expert perinatologist, and discussing your individual case to find out if there is any need for them.
