Can tacroz forte be used for vitiligo?

Q: My 8-year-old daughter has been detected with vitiligo. A white patch below the right eye is appearing for the past one and a half years. Can Tacroz Forte 0.1% be used in her case? What are its side effects? Is it effective?

A:Tacroz Forte is the brand name of a drug called tacrolimus. Its ointment is indicated for atopic eczema and not vitiligo. Eczema is an allergic disease while vitiligo is the absence of pigments (hypopigmentation). Hence Tacroz is not appropriate and may cause serious side effects.
