Can progression of muscular dystrophy be stopped?

Q: One of my cousin is suffering from Muscular Dystrophy and his condition is becoming worse day by day. Now he is not able to climb stairs without support and his calf muscles are too weak for him to even sit down or get up from the chair. We have tried all sorts of treatments but everything in vain. I would like to know is there any sort of treatment which can atleast stop his current condition from becoming worse.

A:I regret there is no good treatment for muscular dystrophy. They all progress. The rate of progression can roughly be made out by the rate you have already seen. If your cousin is a male between 7-12 and has got large calves that form is particularly more progressive. This does not mean physiotherapy and exercises should not be attempted. Sorry I cannot help you more.
