Can my daughter carry my surrogate baby?
Q: I am 43 years old and have a 19 year old daughter and niece who is 22 years old. I would like to have a baby now but have high blood pressure, so is it anyway possible that either of the girls can carry and deliver the baby for me? I would be grateful for advice.
A:You need to see a counsellor on this issue. What you are talking about is a complicated ethical issue. We know lot of fertility clinics that are offering all kinds of services. I am not sure you are aware of all the implications like you daughter carrying a surrogate baby who would be her biological brother. These issues have not been clearly defined in law in India and I am not sure what your compulsion is in trying to bear a child at this stage (since you say you already have a healthy child or maybe more healthy children). Somebody needs to sit down with you and discuss in detail and then decide what you should do. You would need the help of a medical ethicist a lawyer and a geneticist to be able to make an informed choice. I hope you consider all possible aspects before you take decisions.
