Can Meprate be taken to postpone the periods?

Q: Can Meprate 10 mg be taken to get my periods late? For how many days should I consume the medicine and in how many days will the periods come? Is it enough to be consumed for 3-4 days?

A:Meprate is the brand name of a hormonal medicine called medroxyprogesterone. It is indicated only when there is deficiency of progesterone hormone and in the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB), endometriosis (presence of endometrial tiussue outside uterus) and lack of menstrual periods due to some known cause. Meprate is not meant to regulate late periods. It should be taken only when prescribed by a competent gynaecologist since it may cause side effects. Its side effects include: Nervous system, stomach, skin & mucous membrane reactions. Weight gain, breast tenderness. Clot formation, water retention and swelling. Fever. Jaundice, depression, acne, nausea, unwanted hair, loss of scalp hair, rash, bone mineral density (BMD) loss.
