Can intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) result in ectopic pregnancy?
Q: My 28 years old wife twice had an ectopic pregnancy. Can intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment result in ectopic pregnancy? If so, what are the chances of conception?
A:Ectopic pregnancy after in verto vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is not common because the embryos are transferred directly in the endometrium endometrial cavity. Still it is seen that those who had history of ectopic pregnancy in past or damaged tubes due to any disease have higher chance of ectopic pregnancy even with IVF or ICSI so the pregnancy needs to be followed up closely for site of implantation.
