Can I take AKT-4 for osteomyelitis?

Q: I am suffering from osteomyelitis and I am on AKT-4. How long will I have to take this? Are there any side effects of this drug?

A:AKT-4 (a combination pack of rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol and pyrazinamide) is meant for tuberculosis, both of lungs and elsewhere. It is not indicated for any disorder, which is not due to TB. Depending on the site and severity of TB, it may need to be taken from a minimum of two up to 6 months in some cases. Like all medicines, it has indeed side effects but treatment of TB is more important than suffering from side effects.
