Can I consume alcohol after taking ramistar?

Q: I am a 50-year-old hypertensive person. I am taking tenoric 50 (atenolol + cholorthalidone 12.5 mg) and Ramistar A (Rampril 2.5 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg.) at bed time. I have to take them on regular basis. Is there any adverse effect if Ramistar A is taken after consuming alcohol?

A:Details given by you are inadequate and hence I am unable to give a considered reply except to say that you are taking quite a few medicines to control your blood pressure. I hope an attempt was made to control BP with lesser number of drugs and that more agents were added on a step-up basis due to inadequate response. The concurrent use of alcohol with ACE inhibitors (such as ramipril- Ramistar A) can lead to dizziness, tendency to black out, orthostatic and exertional hypotension, lower heart output due to vasodilatation. Naturally these side effects are more likely with large intake.
