Can I conceive naturally after taking treatment for blocked tubes?
Q: I am a 29 years old woman having problem in conceiving. I had a laparoscopy done 4 months back in which both my tubes were found blocked. The doctor opened the right side tube and asked me to go for PCR test for tuberculosis and mycobacteria was detected in the test. The doctor advised me to take 9 months course of AKT 4 medicine. After all this the chances of conceiving is only 5%. The doctor has also suggested to go for IVF. Can I conceive naturally after the TB treatment course? Is there any chance of re-blocking of the right tube? Can I go for IVF directly or after completing the TB treatment course?
A:With both tubes blocked and endometrial tuberculosis, chance of natural conception after treatment is nil - even after treatment and IVF, success is very low. If you are prepared to spend and maybe undergo repeated tests, visits to hospital and still have low chance of success- you need to decide very carefully, with your partner. Adoption is always a more sure short option- again to be considered, discussed and decided upon.
