Can blood sugar level increase without eating?
Q: I am a 65 years old female. My blood sugar level after ten hours of fasting is around 110 mg/dl. After another two hours of fasting, the level increased to 125 mg/dl. Shouldn''t the sugar level decrease after two more hours of fasting?
A:Fasting blood sugar is after 8-10 hrs fasting, it may vary later even without eating as Liver continues to make glucose and body continues to use it, when production is more than usage blood glucose will go up. This level can change from min. to min. In any case the significance remains the same i.e. you have "Glucose Intolerance" to be specific it is called impaired fasting glucose. It is a pre-Diabetic condition.
