Am I suffering from gestational diabetes?

Q: I am a 29 years old female, 150 cm tall, into my ninth month of pregnancy. I had a sugar test done during my first trimester, which revealed my blood sugar to be 95 mg/dl. My doctor asked me to go for a 75 g GTT at 6 months and the readings were: fasting sugar - 90 mg/dl, 1hour: 144 mg/dl and 2 hour: 114 mg/dl. At the beginning of pregnancy, my weight was 62 Kg and now I weigh 72Kg. A random sugar test at 32 weeks reported blood sugar to be 105 mg/dl. I continued with my normal food cravings, which were a little high on sugar levels since I mostly enjoyed eating sweet things. I want to ask whether or not I am suffering from gestational diabetes?

A:You do not have gestational diabetes till now as per all test reports. There are very little chances of developing it in the last 4 week, however, you should continue to have your sugar levels monitoring during this period. Gaining 10 kg is on the higher side and because of this, you must limit the intake of saturated fats as well as free sugars such as fruit juices and sugar added to tea and coffee. Taking a whole fruit with the roughage would be a better option.
