Am I losing erection due to high sugar levels?
Q: I am 30 years old and suffering from diabetes for the last 6 years. Recently I started taking glyciphage twice in a day. Earlier I took ayurvedic medicines, still the sugar level is very high around 250+. I got married last year and my sexual organ does not arouse. Is it because of high sugar level?
A:You have type 2 diabetes mellitus with poor glycemic control. Sexual dysfunction may be because of two reasons i.e., poor glycaemic control per se or autonomic dysfunction. To achieve good glyacemic control you need to take glimepride (Amaryl) 1 mg, 30 minutes before breakfast along with Glycogen SR 500 mg twice a day. Titrate the doses to achieve fasting blood glucose between 80 -120 mg/dl and 2-hr level of 140-180 mg/dl. After achieving these levels if you still don't get erectile function then get your autonomic functions done which include a battery of clinical and lab tests.
