A graduate from Maulana Azad Medical College, he did his post-graduation and senior residency in Medical Microbiology from Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi. In 1995, he joined the department of Clinical Microbiology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as a junior consultant, where he spent more than 13 years, rising to consultant / senior consultant, and was closely associated with the microbiology newsletter, hospital newsletter and the hospital website, since the beginning.
His assignments with WHO since 2000, relating to guidelines for hospital associated infections, strengthening health laboratories in neighbouring countries, laboratory information systems, antimicrobial resistance, global fund proposal, and improving malaria microscopy, led to a heightened interest in public health issues. Currently, he's working with the WHO country office for India on strengthening laboratory surveillance for diseases of public health importance.
He is the web-editor of the Hospital Infection Society of India's website (HISIndia.org), the associate editor of the HISI newsletter, and the editor of the HISIndia online discussion forum. He is a resource person with the National Informatics Centre, Delhi, and also a member of the IndMed journal selection committee. He has a keen interest in publishing, designing and health informatics.
