Our hair becomes grey in old age, which is a natural phenomenon. But if this problem arises at an early age, it can be a result of an unhealthy lifestyle. Premature greying is a problem commonly faced by the youth today so here are some tips for them.
white hair natural premature whitening
We all know the dreadful feeling of finding a white or gray hair on our scalp. This is seen as natural in old age but isn't as common amongst the youth. No matter what age you are, finding a white strand is always a bane. The reason why our hair becomes grey is when there is a significant reduction of the color pigment present in the hair. Whereas it turns white when there is complete loss of pigment. In recent times premature whitening has become extremely common, this is due to our changing lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. Stress is also a major factor that leads to hair whitening. Even though sometimes this can be due to your genes and abnormal hormone production, many other causes are due to our modern sedentary lifestyle. It can be prevented by adopting a healthier outlook in life, like regular exercise and maintaining a balanced diet.
Some home remedies to reduce whitening -
1. Henna
Henna is used as a natural colorant for the hair. It is way better than the chemically infused harmful hair colors and also provides nourishment to the hair. It gives a natural auburn color to the hair and if one prefers a darker brown color, ground coffee can be added. It is the most commonly used remedy for whitening hair. Best way to apply it is by taking some henna powder the quantity depending upon the intensity of grey hair. Then soak it in water for around 8 hours, preferably over the night. Once this is done, pour coffee into it along with some lemon juice. Mix it well. You can also add some amla powder to this mixture, to further provide them with nourishment.
2. Black tea
It helps to darken the color of the hair, and also due to its rich antioxidant properties it reduces the growth of the grey or white hair. You can take brewed tea approximately 200-250 ml and use it after shampooing as a conditioner. You can also boil two tablespoons of black tea and sift it after cooling down to room temperature. Apply it on the scalp and let it sit for at least one hour and rinse well. Do not use a shampoo afterwards.
3. Sesame Oil and Almond Oil
Almond oil is rich in nutrients that stimulate hair growth and reduce hair fall. It also reduces split ends which is extremely beneficial for the hair. But it also enhances melanin production, thus restoring natural pigmentation in graying hair. Sesame oil on the other hand reverses the premature ageing process due to its anti ageing properties. Just massage either of the two oils thoroughly on your roots and the length of your hair and keep it preferably overnight, repeat at least once or twice a week.
4. Gooseberry or Gooseberry powder
It is rich in Vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant, this has anti-aging properties which reduces the pigmentation of the hair that causes discolouring of the hair. It also helps to repair damaged hair and works as a hair tonic. This can be used by either boiling dried gooseberries in coconut oil or by heating the powder to ash, adding coconut oil on low heat. Then pouring the liquid in an airtight bottle and letting it sit for 24 hours before applying.
5. Curry Leaves
They stimulate the hair follicles to produce melanin, which gives your hair its color. More melanin production results in the prevention of white hair. You can apply this by heating 6-10 curry leaves and one cup of coconut oil and applying generously on the roots.
6. Fenugreek leaves
These seeds contain various nutrients which prevent premature graying and also stimulate growth and prevents hair fall. You can either soak them in water and drink, or soak the seeds in water and grind them to form a paste with coconut oil or almond oil which can be used as a hair mask.
