The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, spread in an area of 550 acres, is located in the South-east of the city Lucknow on Raebareli road. The hospital is situated 15 kms outside of Lucknow. This super-speciality teaching and training medical institute was established in 1983 under the State Legislature Act. It offers students with own degrees recognised by the Medical Council of India.
The hospital works on a referral basis, patients here are required to bring a referral slip from a physician. The referring physician is required to explain the nature of the ailment and what kind of treatment the patient requires from the institute. The hospital, however, does not provide medical assistance for free.
The hospital holds as many as 1050 common beds and is equipped with state of art facilities in 24 operation theatres and holds 115 different outpatient clinics for various specialities.
