The Christian Medical College and Hospital is a private and minority-run medical education and research institute. It consists of primary, secondary and tertiary care hospitals all around Vellore in Tamil Nadu. CMCH is a highly respected medical institution all over India and in abroad as well. Moreover, this institute is also one of the best medical colleges in the country. This institute was dates back in 1990 when it was founded by a Christian missionary who also started the very first College of Nursing in 1946. Other landmark achievements include the first leprosy surgery in 1948, then the first successful open heart surgery in 1961 and most recently an incompatible kidney transplant in 2009.
