The All India Institute of Medical Sciences was set up with an objective of developing teaching patterns for under-graduate and post-graduate students of medical sciences and its various branches. This institute was of national importance under an Act of Parliament. It aimed at presenting high level of medical education and facilities. Under the Act, AIIMS organzies teaching programmes for both medical and para-medical course, for both under-graduate and post-graduate levels. The institute also provides its own degrees and awards. With a wide array of teaching, research and healthcare facilities that it offers, AIIMS is one of the best medical facilities in the nation. AIIMS offers teaching and research facilities in 42 disciplines. It is by far, the best institute for medical research. The faculties here release 600 research publications every year. It also runs a College of Nursing and offers training for Nursing Post-Certificate degrees.
