Will wearing tight briefs prevent hernia recurrence?

Q: I am a 24 years old boy who underwent hernia surgery last year. I came to know that wearing tight briefs prevents hernia recurrence, is it true? Is there any sort of restrictions on what type of underwear I should wear? Also, I still don't feel complete sensitiveness around the area I was operated, and sometimes I find a bit of stress on my testicles when trying to defecate. Are these normal symptoms?

A:I do not think the kind of underwear you wear has anything to do with the recurrence of hernia. If the hernia has been successfully repaired than only precaution you need to take is that you do not have to strain while passing urine or defecating. The minor symptoms regarding sensation you report are very normal after surgery and takes a while before you adjust to these symptoms.
